My Philosophy

A painting should tell a story. Painting is more than painting things well technically and proficiently. I feel it is important that the artist is able to put their own interpretation and soul into the painting. For me, the light is what draws me to a subject. The drama created by strong contrast in light and shade allows me to construct a painting that hopefully draws the viewer into the painting. Where the viewer feels the need to stop and look further at what is before them. Where they feel there is no barrier that keeps them out.

So what tells a great story? I believe it is a good concept. An idea that the viewer can relate to and which culminates in a feeling of knowing and understanding what is being expressed in the painting. This visual message is what makes the difference between a good painting and what I believe to be a masterpiece.

Painting to me is a continuous journey not a destination.
